Dehradun, Sep 10 (UNI) Uttarakhand has alerted its border district administrations against activities of antisocial elements and social media in view of the political crisis, instability and violence in neighbouring Nepal.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami issued directives following a meeting with magistrates from three border districts: Champawat, Pithoragarh and Udhamsingh Nagar.
In view of the deepening political instability in Nepal, Dhami called for an emergency video conference with the district administration, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officials and the police from three border districts to review security at the Indo-Nepal border last night.
He also directed the officials to stay on high alert along the Nepal border.
"Ensure constant monitoring of social media to curtail rumours, misleading information and provocative content immediately," he said.
The Chief Minister also urged the district administrators to coordinate and have regular communication with central security agencies and the SSB responsible for manning Indo-Nepal borders in Uttarakhand. Dhami also asked for stricter surveillance in the border areas, involving local villagers, police personnel and forest officials.
"All entry points near Nepal borders and cross-border movements must be under constant radar. Security guidelines shared by the Centre must be followed strictly, and the deployment of additional forces from the state must be increased according to the needs," he said.
